Materials: potato piece, toothpicks, and a cup with water

Steps:

Push three toothpicks partway into the potato.
Place the potato into a cup with water.
Observe the potato daily for two weeks. Add water to keep the bottom on the potato underwater

Explain your results:

Predict: Based on what you observed, predict what might happen to a potato left for two weeks in damp soil. Explain.

Infer: Why might a potato farmer save part of a crop?

How is an inference different from a prediction?

You may want to consider picking a great book from Scholastic! There are some great Newbery Medal books listed on page 5 of the April Arrow catalogue!
